Michigan-based composer, percussionist, and organist Noah Mallett has been making music for as long as he can remember. A native of Big Rapids, Michigan, he made his public debut at age 6 playing alongside renowned jazz drummer Bernie Dresel and has continued to delight audiences as both performer and composer. Noah is constantly curious, endlessly in pursuit of new styles, colors, and influences; as a result, his music is “charmingly eclectic”.
As a composer his works have been performed by artists including the Harlem String Quartet, Invoke String Quartet, flutist Marco Granados, the Jorge Glem Trio, soprano Caroline Worra, the Grand Rapids Youth Symphony, and many others. He was also chosen as a Composition Merit Scholar in 2017 by the National YoungArts Association.
In addition to his composition-based efforts Noah is also an acclaimed marimbist, having appeared as soloist with the Brevard Music Center Festival Orchestra, Grand Rapids Youth Symphony, Grand Rapids Symphonic Band, Grand Rapids Symphony, and Michigan State University Symphony Orchestra, and was featured on WQXR’s (NY) Young Artist Showcase in 2018.
Noah recently completed his undergraduate studies in composition and percussion at Michigan State University, working with professors Ricardo Lorenz, Zhou Tian, David Biedenbender, and Gwendolyn Dease. He began his master’s studies in percussion at the same institution in 2023, also studying with Dease, and began formal training as an organist with Hae Won Jang. He currently serves Lansing Central United Methodist Church as Organ Scholar. Additionally he enjoys dancing, and spends much of his free time solving sudokus and learning languages.
